The Advantages and Disadvantages of Living Alone

Nowadays, many people like to live alone, including teenagers, college students and definitely adults. Most people think that living alone is a good choice due to having abundant freedom. According to research by the Economic and Social Research Council in England, there is a significant increase in the numbers people living alone compared to the years of 1981 and 2001. However, some people had not concerned about some of the serious problems that be caused from living alone. Therefore, I would like to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of living alone.

There are some advantages if we live alone. First, we can be more mature and self-reliant as we have to do everything by ourselves such as doing laundry, washing dishes and preparing meals by our own. Hence, we can be less dependant on others and become mature. Besides, living alone has much more freedom. It is because no one will control, disturb or bother us and we can do whatever we want. For example, we can have a meal whenever we are hungry, even if we hold a party without the permission from our parents or roommates. In addition, we will not be disturbed by anybody such as being bothered by our siblings during revision time and it may benefit our academic results. Thus, living alone can bring a lot of freedom to us.

On the contrary, we may also have some disadvantages if we live by ourselves. Though we can train to be more independent, it is quite hard for us to handle it for the first time. For example, we have to tidy up all the stuff if we mess up our place. It may take us a bunch of time for cleaning and tidying up the house. Hence, we will have less time for doing other important work. Meanwhile, we have to learn how to cook by ourselves, which also takes a lot of time. Even worse, sometimes we may not have sufficient time to cook and we may order food from delivery. As a result, eating too much restaurant food is not good for our health due to the lack of nutrients and the excessive seasonings. So, we can see that living alone may waste our time.

In addition, some people cannot afford to rent or buy the house. In fact, not only do the rent of some apartments and houses expensive, the electricity, water, cable internet bills are also quite costly. Therefore, we have to be concerned about this cost of living. Otherwise, it will be quite difficult for us to afford the cost. In addition, it may be quite dangerous if we live alone as there is no one who can take care of us. For instance, if we forget to switch off the heater, it might cause a hazardous fire accident. Thus, it is hard for us to live alone with those situations.

In conclusion, there are both advantages and disadvantages of living alone. Therefore, we should evaluate for ourselves to see if this way of living suitable for us or not and not just follow what people do blindly. Otherwise, you will regret what you did in the end.
